Wonder R. J. Palacio read online review & book description:

Millions of people have read the #1 New York Times bestseller WONDER and fallen in love with Auggie Pullman, an ordinary boy with an extraordinary face.
The book that inspired the Choose Kind movement, a major motion picture, and the upcoming, critically acclaimed graphic novel White Bird  - on sale 10/1/2019!
I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.
August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.
"Wonder is the best kids' book of the year," said Emily Bazelon, senior editor at Slate.com and author of Sticks and Stones: Defeating the Culture of Bullying and Rediscovering the Power of Character and Empathy. In a world where bullying among young people is an epidemic, this is a refreshing new narrative full of heart and hope. R.J. Palacio has called her debut novel “a meditation on kindness” —indeed, every reader will come away with a greater appreciation for the simple courage of friendship. Auggie is a hero to root for, a diamond in the rough who proves that you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.

I thought that Wonder was an amazing book I like how it just had so many things to talk about and I like how it told a story about a kid that that had a disability and every one hated him except his mom his dad and his sister. And when he started a public school everyone thought he was weird and there were a few mean kids but then he made friends like Jack and Summer. Soon everyone wanted to be his friend because he got the highest grades in his school. Then he thought he wasn’t such a weird person after all. It was a little sad but it tells you not to be mean to people and to sand up to not just you but also the people who need you to stand up to them and to be kind and truthful to other people and to treat people the way you want to be treated. The End;)

  • Bad Example to Children

It could’ve been a wonderful book. But I feel like the author put too much effort into making the readers pity August that he now comes across as a spoiled brat. HE IS SUCH A BIG CRYBABY. He never shows any consideration towards his friends and family. He doesn’t care about the life of others, making Summer and Charlotte seriously underrepresented. Jack Will’s only claim to fame is when he punched Julian and when he talked behind Auggie’s back. Julian is such a stereotypical bully and each chapter is told by a different point of view- but they are all about Auggie. Auggie this, Auggie that. There is almost no subplot. All Auggie does is play victim over and over and OVER AGAIN! I don’t understand how this book is considered “inspirational” because August DOESN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING TO DEFEND HIMSELF!!😡 He manipulates his family into letting him skip school whenever he wants/ and NOT for medical reasons! Hello, I had a serious medical condition when I was his age and I’ve had surgeries and I miss a bit of school due to hospital visits. But I DID NOT play victim! I sucked it up! There are countless other kids like me who have medical conditions that interfere with school. But sure as hell don’t act the way August does. One thing I found disturbing was his grip on Olivia, his sister. She’s in high school, right? So it’s only natural she’ll participate in some activities such as the the drama club, in which she’s part of a play. But when it’s her big chance to have a night with JUST her parents and to be able to show them what she had been working on. A NORMAL kid would be like, “ok! Good luck!” But no. August throws a huge tantrum and accuses Olivia of being embarrassed of him and makes her break down in tears and then let him go. See? August pulls stunts like these and causes drama all over the grade. Jack says something hurtful, and August hears this. August then gives Jack the silent treatment, which we all know is a TERRIBLE way of dealing with fights. He doesn’t even give Jack an opportunity to explain the circumstances and why he did that. The rest of the book is August manipulating everyone around him. He fits the description of a sociopath down to a T. Honestly one of the worst books I’ve ever read. Read “Out of my mind” It’s a WAY better story. It’s about a girl with CP and she can’t talk. It’s very inspirational! Way better than reading about a little brat like Auggie. Also, why was he celebrated at the end? He didn’t do anything remarkable.

Such a good book. Based on all the hype it gets I would say it’s a little UNDERRATED and not overrated because it’s worth the hype and so much more!
