Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker Jennifer Chiaverini read online review & book description:

New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Chiaverini’s compelling historical novel unveils the private lives of Abraham and Mary Lincoln through the perspective of the First Lady’s most trusted confidante and friend, her dressmaker, Elizabeth Keckley.

In a life that spanned nearly a century and witnessed some of the most momentous events in American history, Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley was born a slave. A gifted seamstress, she earned her freedom by the skill of her needle, and won the friendship of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln by her devotion.

A sweeping historical novel, Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker illuminates the extraordinary relationship the two women shared, beginning in the hallowed halls of the White House during the trials of the Civil War and enduring almost, but not quite, to the end of Mrs. Lincoln’s days.

Have just begun reading and am really enjoying the story. The word crafting is amazing. The author, Jennifer Chiaverini, really takes you back to that time. I cannot wait to read her other stories. I have found a new, favorite author.

Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker is great story telling. I love the voice and tempo of the story. I feel like the picture Chiaverini creates is far more real than anything Norman Rockwell did.

This book was wonderful! Being a lover of both fashion and history, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It showed another perspective to the civil war and a special relationship between Mrs. Lincoln and her dressmaker/friend. It gave another historical perspective to President Lincoln's assassination and the story of how not only the country moved forward but also his family. It made me think about it in a whole new way!
