Michael is severely injured when the Stark is hit by two Exocet missiles, leaving him disfigured and a hopeless cripple.

After a failed suicide attempt Michael wakes up in the hospital with new hope in his life. He has had an epiphany. If he can compete in and complete Hawaii's Iron Man Triathlon, he can do anything.
