A great many woman were in love with John Wilkes Booth until April 14, 1865. On that day, he assassinated Abraham Lincoln. Izola was one of the women deeply in love with John Wilkes Booth. After the assassination, she kept him warm and comfortable at their farm while his leg healed. About a year later, she helped him leave the country.
This is the story of her tumultuous life, from birth to death. Her stepmother kicked her out of the house when she was twelve. She survived by stealing food on the streets of Boston. She was taken in by an orphanage and adopted. Her new parent’s son impregnated her at fifteen. Her baby boy died at two. She writes about her heartbreaks, and the reader can follow her sorrow through her poems. Her life was full of heartbreak.
