Isiah Thomas (the 1980s Detroit Pistons version, that is) was one of the toughest point guards to ever play the game. Any tough, highly competitive point guard who comes along these days built his game int he mold of Isiah, whether the knows it or not.
Isiah led the “Bad Boys” Pistons to consecutive Ba Championships in the late 80’s, single-handedly bringing an end to the championship eras of both the LA Lakers and Boston Celtics. Isiah made 12 straight NBA All-Star games and created the mold of the future Chris Pauls and Stephon Marburys.
Isiah was one of the first point guards to be the focal point of a winning NBA team, at a time when the conventional wisdom was that a center had to be the main guy. How would you like to be the leader for your team as the point guard?
