If It's Summer, Why Do I Need a Parka and Gloves? (Local) The Virginian Pilot read online review & book description:
I KEEP socks and a pair of gloves with the fingers cut off in my desk drawer. Along with my trusty "office sweater," they help me survive the coldest months of the year. I'm talking about July and August. Every summer, offices and public buildings turn into walk-in refrigerators, and women lose all feeling in our outer extremities. The reason for our summertime misery is fashion. While women's fashions have long recognized the fact that there are four seasons, men's have been permanently stuck in the month of November for centuries. To compensate, office air conditioning systems remain firmly calibrated at a temperature only the Abominable Snowman could possibly find comfortable.
