The mission sermons and writing in this book are reflective of thousands of sermons and lectures delivered in his ministry years. Cline Paden wrote and spoke eloquently but most of those thousands of presentations were never penned, recorded, or preserved. It is certain that still many manuscripts and recordings on mission themes are scattered around the brotherhood.
The title of this book, Broken By Fruitfulness depicts well what Cline Paden most wanted to do with his life. It comes out of an event while accompanying some preacher students to pick free fruit to supplement their limited support. They were walking through the orchard, passing a tree whose limbs were breaking under the weight of its abundant fruit. To the surprise of the students, Cline Paden began to applaud the tree, weeping as he spoke, that the tree was fulfilling its God–assigned mission and design. It was broken by fruitfulness.
May these sermons and writings tell you more than the spirit of an extraordinary servant. May they tell you of the worthiness of a God for whom many good men and women gladly pour out their lives, being broken, finally, by fruitfulness.
